long story short
Dynamic Women in Business (formerly Dorset Women in Business) was started in 2010 by successful local business woman Emma James as part of her Tasty Marketing business, in conjunction with HSBC bank (who went on to support DWIB for 6 years). We held 6 meetings per year in various venues across Dorset.
Dawn Cook took over the group in 2013 after Emma’s business was bought and women’s networking wasn’t a focus anymore. Dawn decided to change it to a monthly event and the group has grown from there.
“Each meeting is a perfect mix of a lovely venue, good food and drink, a realistic ticket price, an inspirational speaker, a charity raffle and a healthy ratio of new to regular attendees.”
Dawn Cook describes herself as “Business Developer, Champion of Women in Business, and Mum” and whilst the order of importance changes regularly (!), these are definitely her main passions in life!
Dawn had a very happy childhood, spent her 20’s travelling and working as a PA around the world, and had a 30’s and 40’s bringing up two children and building a successful media business with her ex-partner.
She is a firm believer in the power of networking, having grown the media business via building strong networks across the country, and now has grown DWIB networking events from six meetings a year in 2010 to nearly 30 a year across Dorset and Hampshire, with more growth across the country planned.
She also now runs her own health and beauty networking marketing business and is a single mum to two teenagers – Sadie and Noel, and a staffy cross dog called Dooley – so life is never dull at home in Poole!
Like everyone, Dawn has experienced major challenges in her life but looks on them as lessons to learn and to grow – she is passionate about the power of personal development and has turned her life around in the last few years because of this passion, and now loves working with women to help them become the best they can be in their business and personal life!
